Reflection
This one's challenge is to use different writing skill to write. We need to write with the title and always think.
Is homework necessary or should schools ban homework for their students?
Although sometimes homework is necessary and useful to their children, I still believe schools should ban homework for their students. Nowadays, more and more data are showing that homework is not as useful as people used to think, so why should we still take lots of homework every day if it doesn’t work? Back to my opinion, I believe that homework is not necessary and it should be banned for students.
First of all, the transcripts and data for more than 18,000 tenth grade students’ nationwide show more homework didn’t translate into better grades. That means more homework doesn’t work so well, it even becomes a kind of waste of time. Students can’t use the homework to get better grade any more. Homework loses its role to help children with their grades. In addition, an associate professor of science education at the university’s Curry School of education said: ‘The more time students spend on homework, it’s not clear that they’re getting better grades or test scores.’ That shows not only the homework is not useful itself and no matter how much time students spend on homework, it still doesn’t work with their grades.
On the other hand, with the large amount of homework, students lose their freedom. For instance, the time to do sports, watch television or even stay with family. I’m of the opinion that students should have their personal time to do other things to relax. So am I, sometimes I do my homework until eleven or twelve. Each time after I just finish the homework, I have to go to bed, or I will lose the energy for the next day in school. There’s a survey of 1,000 K12 teachers found high school students spend 17.5 hours each week and the data is still keeping increase. Therefore, I suppose that homework shouldn’t take our free personal time away.
Finally, my point is how do schools know homework could be the best way for children? Schools even don’t ask us about it. Co-author Robert Tai, associate professor of science education at the university's Curry School of Education, said: “What we are concerned with is that homework is just being assigned rather than being used to integrate what's going on in the classroom.” If homework is not actually being signed for the students’ better grade, it’ll lose its value. Tai says the study is a wakeup call for educators. "Teachers need to be much clearer about why they are assigning homework and what the homework is for," Tai said. "If teachers aren't really incorporating homework into their teaching, it's unclear there is any type of benefit at all and it actually may end up hurting students." That means homework doesn’t necessarily help or it is not signed in a right way. That doesn’t support that we need homework. When I’m taking k12 biology and modern world history, I find it easier but much more helpful on learning them. They don’t have so much of homework. We just do our job in class, like an assignment or quizzes. When I take the notes down and bring it home for review the test, I realized it’s a better way to learn in school without homework.
Therefore, it’s my conclusion that schools should ban the homework, because it shows that homework don’t actually help a lot and it’s unnecessary nowadays.
